Sustainable Energy

The higher energy prices and blackouts are increasingly becoming common due to limited supply of electricity, as communities are transitioning to green energy sources. Many solutions focus on technological advancement on batteries and smart grids; however, community-focused consumption moderation is most effective way to address the problem. It reduces overall electricity consumption, increase the share of green energy and moderates the electricity prices. In collaboration with our community partner, Avangrid (a utility company), this project aims to moderate electricity consumption for several neighborhoods in Northeast and avoid blackouts by reducing the peak load. This will avoid costly and time-consuming infrastructure upgrade, as well as further reduce greenhouse emissions caused due to construction. We want to develop a subscription-based pricing model based on consumption to enact behavior change among users.
